Alice Trotter is an Associate in the Criminal Litigation team. Alice’s practice includes all areas of criminal litigation, with particular expertise in Online Safety, serious and general crime, and white-collar crime.  She represents individuals and corporate clients from the initial stages of an investigation through to trial.


Serious and General Crime
Alice represents individuals from pre-charge investigation stage at the police station through to the conclusion of a criminal trial. Her experience includes defending clients accused of a range of offences including sexual offences and assault.

White collar, Business and Financial Crime
Alice represents clients in relation to large-scale complex white collar and business crime investigations brought by enforcement agencies including the Metropolitan Police Service, Crown Prosecution Service (CPS), Serious Fraud Office (SFO), HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC) and the National Crime Agency (NCA). She advises on investigations into bribery, corruption and money laundering violations.

Alice has also worked on internal investigations, looking into suspected criminal and regulatory breaches. Additionally, she has provided corporate clients with compliance advice on a broad range of issues including legal professional privilege.

Online Safety
Alice has an expertise in Online Safety. This includes the impact of new offences under the Online Safety Act on individuals and corporate entities under criminal investigation, as well as the corporate compliance obligations under this legislation. She also has an expertise in the development of regulations surrounding offending behaviour in the Metaverse, with a particular focus on sexual offending. She has carried out a number of presentations on this topic to universities, founders of tech start-ups and law enforcements professionals.

International Crime and Interpol
Alice has been involved in international crime cases with cross-jurisdiction elements. She has a particular expertise dealing with Francophone jurisdictions as she is fluent in French, having grown up in France.

She also has a developing Interpol practice. She has assisted several clients subject to Red Notices and has advised on applications for deletion. These have frequently been complex cases, often with politically motivated allegations or human rights issues.

FURTHER INFORMATION

Alice joined Kingsley Napley in 2018. Prior to qualifying into the Criminal Litigation team in 2023, Alice worked as a paralegal in the Family team, where she assisted partners and associates with a range of cases including divorce proceedings, urgent applications and litigation in relation to both financial and children matters.

Alice studied French, English and American Law at University Paris Ouest. She subsequently completed their Bilingual Masters in French Law and Common Law, and an LLM in International Law and International Relations at the University of Kent.

She subsequently achieved a Distinction on the Legal Practice Course from the University of Law.
