Edward has practised exclusively in the field of criminal law for over 15 years and brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to his role. He has acted for clients accused of the most serious offences such as murder, manslaughter and rape and always approaches all his cases in a calm, methodical and meticulous manner in order to achieve the best possible outcome for his clients.
Serious Crime and Police Station Representation
Edward’s practice predominantly focuses on the sensitive “pre-charge” stage of criminal litigation, a stage that can often make or break a criminal case. Edward’s approach at this stage is always to ensure that every possible avenue is explored to prevent the case progressing to charge. He has had notable successes with this approach, in particular in complex allegations of historic sexual offences.
Edward also is also an expert in litigating criminal cases at all levels of the criminal courts. He has particular expertise in the field of serious crime, including allegations involving offences of a sexual nature. His approach to these cases is never to simply be reactive to the prosecution case, but always to proactively advance a positive defence case supported by the best-quality evidence available.
International Law and Extradition
Edward’s practice also involves a strong international element. He is a recognised expert in the field of extradition law in Chambers & Partners and has acted for clients facing extradition requests from countries all over the globe, including the United States, Australia, Canada, Thailand, Kenya and Colombia. He is an expert in litigating the more complex “Part 2” cases which require a strong case to be advanced if a challenge is to be successful. He has over many years of litigating these cases built up an array of international contacts and expert witnesses that he can call upon to assist him with this.
Police Criminal Records and Data Deletion
Edward is acutely aware of the reputational damage that a criminal allegation can cause, especially to professional clients and those with a public profile, and is co-author of a highly-regarded practitioner text on the subject, Criminal Records, Privacy & The Criminal Justice System: A Practical Handbook, published by Bloomsbury Professional. He has a deep knowledge of the means by which the police can collect and retain an individual’s personal data and the means by which an individual can apply to have that personal data deleted from police systems. He is also an expert in dealing with issues arising from the disclosure of personal data on Disclosure & Barring Service (DBS) certificates and applying for individuals to be removed from the DBS Barred Lists.
Ed is also mentionned as a Key Lawyer in Legal 500 and is ranked in Chambers and Partners UK.
